When You Wake Up, Do This Immediately.
Who do you love the most? Who is the One person you adore the most? Is it your family? Your kids? Your spouse? Your parents? Yourself?
None of these people gave you life. None of them gave you your body. Your mind. Your heart. Your clothes, shoes, food, home, job, etc...Everything you have is because of God. If it wasn't for God, you don't even exist. You have nothing. And you are nothing. So who deserves your number one position in your life? Your day? God!
Jesus started His day by waking up and praying, Mark 1:35. When you wake up, don't look at your phone. Don't check messages, social media, calls, eat, shower, get ready for your day, none of that. First thing you should do is put God literally first in your day. This shows Him you are putting Him in the number one place in your life. If you put others in that place, what does that show? God wants to see our faith. He must have the first place. A part of having the first place is by putting Him first by spending time in prayer. And in that prayer, it should not be a one minute prayer. It should be a long prayer spending quality time with the Father thanking Him, glorifying Him, worshipping Him, pouring our hearts out to Him, and then asking for petitions (all in that order).
Jesus says God must have the first place in our lives. That means in all aspects of our life, God must have the first place. This is how the Son treated the Father. Do you follow the Son? Then you have to treat the Father the same way the Son taught you to, the same way He treated His Father. So examine how do you treat God? Is He the first place in your life? If He isn't even the first place in your heart, in your day the minute you wake up, what makes you think He is number one in all other areas of your life?
Putting Him first brings clarity to your day. He helps you. Connecting with Him first thing is crucial for our spiritual health. And of course, it pleases Him, for without faith it is impossible to please God.
